My New Nokia 6300

Fellow bloggers and non bloggers,

I am writing on my blog after 8 months. Have been busy with my job.

After loosing my N73 ... i still miss that phone. Never even got the chance to write a review on it. Never mind that.
After loosing my N73, i bought myself a Nokia 6300 ... not that i prefer it over N73, its just that i didn't have the money to go for another N73. For Rs. 8850 it seemed a good deal.
The first thing you will notice about the phone is the use of metal. Stainless steel back cover and the rim of the front panel. Use of metal gives the phone a very sturdy feel. The phone definitely has a very good built quality.
With this phone nokia has made its entry in the "who had the slimmest phone" competition.
The moment you switch on 6300, the screen come alive and u notice its like no other. Yes ... this is the best display among all nokia phone. It supports some 16 million colors and is very bright and crisp. This has a down side too ... the more brighter the screen the more battery it consumes. There is also no option for reducing or increasing the screen brightness. In the initial few days i used to find the screen too bright for my eyes and i still do so if i am using the phone in absolute darkness.
The number keys are large and easy to use. Makes typing SMS a real treat. The key pad is distinctly soft too. The navigation keys are decent ... i particularly had difficulty in scrolling up. I feel the call & end and the softkeys could have been a little bigger. Key pad lighting is a cool blue and evenly lights up all the keys.
The phone comes with a 128 mb micro SD card. Less if u plan to use it as a portable music player. It would be a wise idea to buy a 1 gb card. (should not cost u more than Rs. 1000).
The music player is average. One very peculiar this was that i was unable to create playlists using the phone. I had to connect the phone to the computer and create the playlist using the PC suit software. The music player automatically scanned and added all the music file that were present on my memory card and phone memory. U might feel thats a good thing ... but it might not sound great if u have 150 mp3 ringtones on ur memory card. There is no option of choosing a particular folder that the player will add to the track list.
The phone comes bundled with a stereo headset. The music quality is average. Thought the songs are very clear but the bass effect is totally missing ... wat they refer to as the "THUMP" is missing.
The thing that totally pissed me off about the phone was the speakers. The speakers are located at the back of the phone ... very unusual for Nokia. Almost all of nokia phone have their speakers located on the sides. This created a problem ... if u keep the phone screen up on a soft surface like ur bed, its most likely that u wont be able to hear the phone ring if u are out of the room. The quality of the soung is also not that great. If the vibrator is off and u are in a crowded place like a mall u are most likely to miss ur calls too.
The default ringtones on the phone are really pathetic.
The camera is 2 mega pixel and has good outdoor picture quality. The night more works well but once u transfer the picture to ur computer u cant miss the grains. As is the case with other nokia phone cameras, the pics are the best when taken outdoors on a sunny day.
Another problem with the phone is the battery life. If u are one of those kinds who cant stay alive without ur phone ... u would need a charge every 12-16 hours. I believer the screen consumes a lot of power and leads to bad battery life.

UP SIDES

1. Awesome Screen
2. Good build quality and looks
3. Value for money

I will be posting some of the pics i took with my 6300 shortly. Am also making a collection of themes games & application for Nokia 6300, will be uploading it soon. Till then ... take care.
